Support the Colony of Avalon to preserve the Past and inspire the Future.
Help preserve one of North America’s most significant English colonial archaeological sites, which continues to shape our shared understanding of Newfoundland and Labrador’s past.
The Colony of Avalon is an independent archaeological site and registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to uncovering, preserving, researching, and sharing the stories of one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s earliest European settlements.
For more than 30 years, archaeologists, staff, volunteers, members, and supporters have worked hand in hand to keep the site active. Today, with more than two million artifacts uncovered and internationally significant discoveries continuing to reshape our understanding of the past, the Colony of Avalon welcomes thousands of visitors from around the world to experience Newfoundland and Labrador’s remarkable history.
As an independent charitable organization, we rely on every admission, membership, donation, sponsorship, grant, and fundraiser to continue archaeological research, care for our collections, create local employment opportunities, deliver educational programs, and share Newfoundland and Labrador’s remarkable history with future generations.
Home to just 371 residents, Ferryland is a small community with an extraordinary story. Nestled in the heart of Newfoundland and Labrador’s historic Irish Loop, the Colony of Avalon is proud to be one of the area’s largest employers and an important driver of heritage tourism. By protecting our shared heritage, we are also helping to strengthen the economy, culture, and future of outport Newfoundland and Labrador.
